Be careful with quoting and following *last year's rules*. FIRST LEGO League commonly adjusts the rules from year to year. Make sure your team reviews *this year's rules* once published and forget all of the rules from previous years.

Pretty much.  From last year's rules:

REGULAR ELEMENTS - You may use as many non-electric LEGO elements as you like, including pneumatics, rubber bands, and string, and they may be from any source or set (MINDSTORMS®/TECHNIC/DUPLO®/BIONICLE™/STAR WARS™/HARRY POTTER™/etc.). Exception: Factory-made wind-up/pull-back "motors" are not allowed.

Are there any restrictions about where parts come from, assuming they came from an official lego kit (as opposed to "designed for lego"--I get that distinction)? Any stories about judges who thought a particular part was not lego authentic? How was it handled?
