As you may know, FIRST has a robotics competition every year and teams begin to form in the late summer. There are different divisions (based on age/grade) and teams can come from the same or different schools. Jr. FLL (FIRST Lego League) is for young elementary students. FLL is the elementary and middle school competition. FTC is the middle/high school competition. FRC is the high school level competition. Team ROBOWIZ is offering a FLL workshop where "kids teach and inspire kids" to join the FLL program. Its about 2 hours. The initial 30 min is an overview of FIRST and FLL and then the remainder is 4 sessions on the 4 components of the FLL: Robot Programming & missions; Robot Design, Research & Presentation and lastly Teamwork (similar to Odyssey of Mind's Spontaneous). We set up 4 stations and the kids rotate through them spending time at each station. Participants get a good overview of what to expect in the FLL program if they do feel like joining. ROBOWIZ FTC Robotics Team#6029 qualified to the 2014 Virginia State Tournament and represented Virginia at the National (East) Championship in York, PA earlier this year. Previously ROBOWIZ was also honored to represent the VA/DC FLL region at the 2012 World Invitational in Legoland, FL and won the 3rd place overall Champions trophy. The team had previously won the 2009 VA/DC FLL Division 1 and represented the USA at the 2010 European Invitational at Istanbul, Turkey. The team was also one of the semi-finalist (with over 38,000+ votes) for the 2012 FLL Global Innovation Award with their C.L.E.A.N. (Combat Lettuce-Ecoli Awesomely & Naturally) Grocery Bags. The FLL workshop is absolutely free - its part of ROBOWIZ FTC team members community give back, to inspire the next batch of kids to join FLL and learn robotics and also the scientific method of doing research. This is a workshop for the kids who are starting off this season in FLL and will be "for the kids by the kids" ( THIS IS NOT AN ADULT WORKSHOP). We have held over 15 workshops in the last 7 years.
