I recently had a catastrophic upgrade on my Mac and can no longer connect to the EV3 via Bluetooth.  I picked up the WiFi adapter and can connect fine over WiFi.  If WiFi is a viable alternative (and you can get your hands on a Netgear WNA1100 N150) I would go with that.

Note that you MUST use the WNA1100 N150.   As far as I can tell it's the only one that will work with the EV3.
