Thomas,

While you might have found a way to make the mission model work on your field, your modification, without an official update from FIRST, will not be implemented on the field setups on which your team will compete. See the Hydro Dynamics Robot Game Rules, GP5, INFORMATION SUPERIORITY:

As a referee, I have had way too many sad team members tell me, "but that is not the way our field is setup at home/school!". What the tournament head referee will do is ask the team members (not the coach) where it states in the official documents that an alternate setup is allowed. If there is none, your team(s) will be required to re-engineer or reprogram your robot on the day of the competition to accommodate the incorrect field setup on your practice table. Trust me on this subject, it leads to a very stressed and unhappy group of team members.

Generically, your team can never go wrong as long as they follow GP5 and your team members can make a compelling case with the referees when scoring (See GP2, GP3, GP5 and R19).

Everyone's best approach is to request clarification from the regional head referee (who monitors this listserve) and wait for official guidance.

Have fun!

We had a problem with the length of the axle using the parts as delivered and substituted one piece on one end of the pipe section to make it fit (about 5mm shorter).  With the axle turning freely when the toilette lever is pressed down, the model worked fine with the weight a provided with the model. It releases water and sludge every time without adding any extra weight.

My team is having trouble flushing the toliet.  The water is not being released like it is suppose to.  We  watched a youtube video that indicated the structure needed added weight.  I know we aren't suppose to do that. Anyone else having problems with this.
