VA/DC FLL Coaches, Parents, Mentors and Friends,
Expert Expos will be held in September and October to support teams' research projects, if enough professionals volunteer to participate in the Expos. Your collective help is needed to find those professionals. Please disseminate the following information to your networks. FIRST LEGO League Seeks Professionals from Many Industries for STEM Events on 9/21 and 10/13
FIRST LEGO League (FLL) is seeking professionals from several industries (list below) to share their expertise during an "Expert Expo" to help elementary and middle school students involved in a research project competition focused on long-duration space travel. Relevant industries: air and space travel, Navy or other military branches (esp. related to long-term overseas or submarine deployments), physiology, psychology, psychiatry, sociology, sports medicine, engineering, government, or any other industry that might be related to long-duration travel, long-term separation and/or aerospace.
The FLL Expert Expos are scheduled for:
Friday, September 21 5:30 pm -7:30 pm, Fairfax, VA
Saturday, October 13 (midday), Alexandria, VA
All thatís requested is your presence and willingness to talk to small groups of students who will be posing questions to experts like you. The students are competing in FIRST LEGO League, an international competitive robotics program designed to get kids excited about science and technology. This year, the competition challenge is to develop an innovative solution to a problem related to long-duration space travel. Your input will help students gather information about current problems, so they can identify their projectís focus.
We are hoping to convene at least 15 professionals to serve about 250 students at each Expo.
Your participation will be a positive public relations and service opportunity for your organization. The extended audience for these events is several hundred parents, coaches and professionals connected with the Northern Virginia science, tech and aerospace industries. It will also raise public awareness of the physical, social, psychological and engineering challenges that result from long-duration separation and space travel -- and it may even lead to a student-developed, world-changing solution.
Details about the research project begin on Page 4 of the Into Orbit Challenge.
