Mission #1 for robot is to be up, supported by the bridge and raise one or both flags. There is no specific sequence enforced in rules. Robot can climb , raise flag(s) and continue with other mission(s).

Great question.  I will be as interested as you to hear the answer.  I don't know why we (myself and the kids) thought the flags have to stay up.  Maybe from the game introduction video?

I was thinking the intent (spirit) of the mission is for both robots to end up on the bridge (side-by-side?) at the end of the match (nice core value activity).  The rule 31 allowance is interesting.  Guess robots could go to far and fall off the bridge onto the other board and cross lanes on the top of the bridge.

As written, Mission 1 does NOT state how long the robot must be supported by the bridge, nor how long the flag must remain raised.  So, raising a flag, while supported the bridge for a few seconds earns points, then the kids can move on to another mission.

I was told by other coaches I am incorrect and the flag and robot MUST be on the bridge when the buzzer sounds at the end of the match.  It does not say that anywhere.  And I understand that if it doesn’t say it, it doesn’t matter.

How is everyone else interpreting?

The Engineering Notebooks and Team Meeting Guides are not required.  The only required parts are the Challenge project and robot game.

They were created to be especially helpful to teams and coaches who are new to FLL, and provide a framework to cover all the elements of a season.  Experienced coaches and teams may not use the meeting suggestions at all, or may borrow or adapt pieces to fit their teams' needs.

We have been participating in FLL for last two year. So the team has some experience with how to go about preparing for the competition.(robot run/project work).

With the new addition of "Team Meeting Guides and Engineering Notebooks" this year natural question -  how rigorously we have to follow them. Some of the ev3 programs in the engineering book are  simple and team is familiar with them. And follow up question - will  team be judged based on what they have done in Engineering Notebooks.

Please advice.
