We too were a rookie team....and I am 100% with you here.

We also are planning to host short, once a week robotics sessions.
The focus points would be things which we never get time to do in a FLL season, some you already have given examples of.

Another thing I think I may do is to come up with some simple but relevant challenges.....for example whose robot (design+programming) can follow a line accurately at the highest speed....maybe have a race if you have two robot chassis 🙂 I would also encourage kids to solve problems in their own time, without pressure. I could also split the team into groups and pit one group against other.

Subject: [VADCFLL-L] Off season FLL classes

Hello there,

We are a rookie team and we had a wonderful season. For our first season, the kids built a 3 wheel robot based on education set and then made their own changes. Programming wise mostly it is straight/curved paths. They used a gyro/color sensor for one mission.

I am planning to have a 2:30 hr sunday class for 3 or 4 months early next year. Any ideas for off season FLL classes? Should i ask them to try out different robot designs, starting from building few base models from websites, or use axles to make better attachments or advanced programming (line following & aligning using color sensor, gyro sensor and other sensors).

Any suggestions/help is appreciated. Thanks.
Palani
