Hi Vinay,
Thank you so much for sharing your team's experience. We are a third-year team (rising 6th graders) and as a coach, I feel the need to challenge the team with something new and exciting to enhance their journey of learning. A couple kids on my team used Python on Raspberry Pi for their science project and have a fair understanding of Python. Your feedback is really helpful. We will check out your repo. Thank much!

Hi,
Our team (Excalibots) used Python for the City Shapers season. There was a learning curve at the beginning of the season but there were a lot of efficiencies gained towards the later part, making and managing changes was much more simpler. Code management (via GitHUB), logging to see outputs on screen, etc. made it easier. Somethings were not that simple compared to EV3 such as parallel tasks (multi-threading) etc. There is an EV3Dev2 version in beta that has more features such as tank move that aren't in the previous version but I would not recommend this for rookie teams.
You can take a look at our repo. on github here - https://github.com/hobnailedshelf/FLL2019

We are not aware of any teams in Virginia or DC that have used Python for programming their FLL robot.

I suspect that a handful of teams from across the world used Python for the City Shaper season.  I am not aware of any team-posted experiences.

FIRST doesn't think that choice of programming language will make a significant difference in what robots are able to do. Based on my experience with programming languages, I agree.  The differences will be in ease of learning and ease of use, including maintainability.

My expectation for the upcoming challenge (the overall season theme for FIRST programs is GAME CHANGERS) is that FIRST and LEGO Education will again publish a sample mission (or part of a mission.). Spike Prime comes with a Scratch environment for programming, and EV3 (and predecessors) came with the MINDSTORMS environment, but the pseudocode is going to be pretty much the same for both.

Hello Kaitlin,
I hope you are doing well and keeping safe. I have another question in the same vane. How popularly is Python used for programming EV3 brick? Have you seen teams successfully use it for the tournament?

Thanks
Nishu

Both the EV3 Mindstorm  AND Spike Prime can be used next season. One is not meant to replace the other!  This also opens up the programming languages that can be used!

Additionally, on May 15th, FIRST will be revealing the robot game. Details as to where and when have not been released yet but I have been told we should hear early next week!

Hello,
Hope you are doing well during these unprecedented times. As you know FIRST released the teaser for 2021 season https://info.firstinspires.org/2021season , my kids got really excited and are eager to get started. I understand the situation is fluid but want to leverage this quarentine period to keep the kids engaged.
I am reaching out to you for recommendations  regarding virtual collaboration and lessons.  I would love to know if graduating teams are willing to mentor my students . Lastly can someone confirm if we need to use SPIKE™ Prime for 2021 season. Your responses are greatly appreciated.
