Pakistan’s National Assembly is 21%
female. Elects woman as Speaker of HouseThe oath-taking by 329 newly-elected
law-makers marked the beginning of a five-year term of the 342-seat lower
house. The National Assembly chose Fahmida Mirza, as Speaker of the House, who
is a businesswoman and lawmaker from Sindh province.
The last outgoing National Assmbly had a
slightly lowere number of womein. It had one less woman. 21% of
Pakistani National Assembly is femal. A record 72 female lawmakers
took oath as National Assembly members on Monday. This flows down to the
provincial Assemblies and then to the District Council Level which has about
33% women councilors.
