Since 1989, the Islamic Association of Shenandoah Valley
has been following ISNA and Fiqa Council of North America(FCNA) to determine
the Eid-ul-Fitr day. Below is the announcement form FCNA. Eid
prayers will be held at the Islamic Center of Shenandoah Valley (visit www.iasv.org for
directions) on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at 9:30 AM. There will be a community
breakfast after the prayers. We seek your help in the following:
1.
Please bring
generous quantities of breakfast foods and juices.
2.
Please help us with setting
up breakfast. Those volunteering to help in setting up breakfast need to arrive
by 8:00.
3.
We need volunteers
to manage parking. Volunteers should arrive by 8:45.We expect 500+ people, so
arrive early to find convenient parking.
FCNA Announces Eid al-Fitr

The
Fiqh Council of North America and the European Council for Fatwa and Research,
after careful examination of the Shari'i sources and opinions of classical and
modern scholars have concluded that it is permissible according to Shari'ah to
use scientific calculations for determining the Islamic lunar months. The
criteria adopted by the two Councils are as follows:
This means that the moonset in Makkah al-Mukarramah must
occur after sunset in that city. Data on sunrise, sunset and moonset are
available in advance, and do not require any announcement. (For more

Following is the definitive astronomical scientific information for the end of
Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal this year:
On the basis of the above information the Fiqh Council of
North America and the European Council for Fatwa and Research have announced
that September 30th is the 30th day of Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr 1429 will be on
October 1st, 2008.
