Folks:

I have just agreed --with substantial excitement on my part--to overseeing a student's independent senior seminar project during her 3 months in New Delhi, India beginning in January.  She is very interested in developing world bioethics and is looking to probably do a Peace Corp stint in between undergrad and grad school.  She will have an internship in health care in New Delhi, but she has not yet found out exactly what her placement will be.

I have selected about 8 short articles to introduce her to basic issues in developing world bioethics (including a recent excellent article in National Geographic Magazine called "Necessary Angels" about Untouchable-caste women providing effective community health care in India, and one on thus past summer's refusal-of-care death of a pregnant Untouchable woman).  But I am looking for a good, short (about the size of APA Proceedings or an issue of Ethics), ideally paperback anthology that would survey the literature in developing world bioethics.  Alternatively, I welcome suggestions for a book by a single author that does a fine job of surveying developing world bioethics issues (much like Hilde Lindemann's recent introduction to feminist philosophy).  Cost must be less than about $60, regardless.

Any suggestions?   I have to select this fairly soon to comply with University paperwork and deadlines--and have 64 essays to grade--but any replies received before Thursday will be very much appreciated.  I should also very much appreciate a brief description of why you like any text/s you suggest.

Reply off-list, if you please, since this is less a discussion than a list of suggestions.

Best,
