Invited Lectures in Aesthetics: Summer 2010
 
The Committee on Diversity of the American Society for Aesthetics announces two summer lecture opportunities created to enhance diversity in aesthetics.  The lectures have been created in collaboration with the Summer Institute for Diversity and Philosophy at Rutgers University and the Philosophy in an Inclusive Key Summer Institute at Pennsylvania State University.  Students attending the institutes are advanced undergraduates.  These are independent positions.  If you wish to apply for both, please submit separate applications.  For further information please contact Philip Alperson at [log in to unmask].
 
Position 1:
Visiting Scholar, 2010 Summer Institute for Diversity and Philosophy at Rutgers University
 
The Committee on Diversity of the American Society for Aesthetics, in collaboration with the Summer Institute for Diversity in Philosophy, invites applications for a Visiting Scholar at the 2010 Summer Institute at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey.  The successful applicant will visit the Institute for one day during which he or she will make a 2 hour and 40 minute presentation on aesthetics.  The Institute meets during the week of August 1 - 8, 2010.
 
The Summer Institute on Diversity in Philosophy is a week-long program designed to introduce undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds to the various areas of specialization within the discipline of philosophy, give students a better idea of what graduate studies in philosophy is about, and explore various views about what it means to be a professional philosopher.
 
Your application should include a current CV including research and teaching interests and a statement of how you would structure your presentation at the Institute.  The decision will be made by the Advisory Committee of the Rutgers Institute in collaboration with the ASA Committee on Diversity.
 
Lecturers will be provided with round-trip transportation to New Brunswick, New Jersey, two nights lodging, and food, along with an honorarium of $500.  Further information on the Institute is at philosophy.rutgers.edu/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=315&Itemid=372.

Visiting Scholar, 2010 Philosophy in an Inclusive Key Summer Institute at Pennsylvania State University
 
The Committee on Diversity of the American Society for Aesthetics, in collaboration with the Association for Feminist Ethics and Social Theory and the Rock Ethics Institute, invites applications for a Visiting Scholar at the 2010 Philosophy in an Inclusive Key Summer Institute at Pennsylvania State University in University Park, Pennsylvania.  The successful applicant will visit the Institute for one day during which he or she will make a 3 hour presentation on aesthetics.  The Institute meets during the week of July 25 – 31, 2010.
 
The PIKSI institute is a seven-day program designed to encourage undergraduate students from under-represented groups to consider future study in the field of philosophy, emphasizing the on-going project of greater inclusiveness in the discipline.
 
Your application should include a current CV including research and teaching interests and a statement of how you would structure your presentation at the Institute.  The decision will be made by the PIKSI Advisory Board in collaboration with the ASA Committee on Diversity.
