Background: 

 

On September 7, 2010, senior religious leaders gathered at an Emergency Interfaith Summit in Washington, DC to make a clear statement to the public that anti-Muslim bigotry is morally wrong and debases essential American values.  They called upon America to seek its higher ideals by ending anti-Muslim bigotry.

 

As a continuation of this effort, The Multi-Religious Campaign Against Anti-Muslim Bigotry (The Campaign) was created as a one-year initiative led by approximately 25 faith-based organizations.  It seeks to not only continue the national witness and work that began on September 7, but also to broaden and deepen the work of religious communities to end anti-Muslim bigotry through congregations and at state and community organizations.  In addition, it will expand this work internationally by making a clear statement to both the Muslim world and the international community as a whole that religious communities in the United States are committed to ending anti-Muslim bigotry. 

 

The Campaign seeks a Campaign Director for a one-year period, January 1 – December 31, 2011.  Salary is commensurate with experience.  Benefits including health care are also provided.

 

The Responsibilities of the Campaign Director will include:

 

  1. Develop and implement, in coordination with the Campaign’s Executive Committee, a rapid response process for mobilizing the religious community when egregious instances of anti-Muslim bigotry occur.
  2. Prepare for Steering Committee and Executive Committee meetings.
  3. Manage website content (directly or supervise web content manager).
  4. Collaborate with the Steering Committee's Media Task Force and coordinate efforts with outside public relations firm.
  5. Manage a survey of faith-based efforts across the country to end anti-Muslim bigotry in order to learn about efforts that are already underway.
  6. Manage collection and distribution of best practices for ending anti-Muslim bigotry from across the country.
  7. Manage compilation of existing educational materials for use by congregations of various religions and make plans for broad dissemination of best of the materials. 
  8. Manage planning process for generation of new ideas for national, state and local religious campaigns to combat anti-Muslim bigotry.  This will include new promotion and study materials for use by congregations of various religions.
  9. Organize and manage events with members of Congress and religious leaders.
  10. Implement the work plan as determined by the Steering Committee and the Executive Committee.
  11. Implement a plan for provision of administrative assistance.

 

Qualifications:

 

·         A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (required).

·         Minimum 5 years experience in project coordination among diverse partners and conference planning.

·         Excellent communication and organization skills.

·         Ability to coordinate work on multiple projects concurrently.

·         Ability to commit for one year (2011).

·         Experience working in a multi-religious environment.

·         Experience working in or around Muslim communities (preferred).

·         Experience working with a national organization (required).

·         Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), electronic calendar, and email communication (required).

·         Experience in maintenance of basic web content (preferred).

 

The Campaign Director will be a member of the staff of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) and will consequently be accountable to ISNA’s human resources policies. At the same, the Campaign Director is responsible to the Steering Committee and its Executive Committee for the program and work of The Campaign, and will implement all major programs as directed by the Executive Committee.
