The Office of LGBT Awareness provides programs, mentoring and annual events designed to promote the academic and personal growth of LGBT/Ally persons, to assure their unrestricted access to, and full involvement in, all aspects of the life of the University, and to serve as a catalyst for the creation of a campus environment free from prejudice, bigotry, harassment and violence. The Office is a member of the National Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals.
The director oversees all operations, personnel and activities of the Office of LGBT Awareness; delivers and coordinates programs and services to provide outreach, support, advocacy and community building for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning undergraduate and graduate students, staff, faculty and their allies; coordinates and facilitates University-wide educational outreach to promote awareness, understanding and support for the LGBT community. The director is expected to remain responsive to the changing needs of the campus community, to recognize the diversity within the LGBT student population and meet the needs of all LGBT students The director is a member of the Dean of Students Office and actively participates in organizational meetings, events, and activities. This is a full time, fully benefited position.  

I.Outreach/Education
a.Coordinate campus-wide outreach activities and awareness campaigns such as National Coming Out Day, LGBT History Month, National Freedom to Marry Day, Jeans Day, and the Day of Silence.
b.Coordinate and facilitate campus speakers, workshops and training programs that provide multiple and diverse opportunities for student learning and development. Collaboration with faculty, staff, and students is expected.
c.Supervise student employees and volunteers in the coordination and provision of the ALLIANCE at Bucknell: Creating Safe Space peer education program.
d.Provide training for resident assistants and peer advisors to enable and empower them to create safe environments and respond properly to inappropriate or harmful behavior in their living-learning communities.
e.Work with student leaders and student organizations to encourage participation in and inclusion of Office of LGBT Awareness activities; advise student groups that are dedicated to LGBT-related initiatives.
f.Provide programs and services that meet the educational, personal, physical and safety needs of LGBT students and their allies.
g.Provide individual consultation for students and proper referral to resources on and off campus as appropriate.
h.Serve as a consultant for faculty and staff on LGBT-related concerns.
i.Manage, staff and regularly update resources available in the Office of LGBT Awareness, maintaining a safe, educational, supportive and inclusive environment for LGBT individuals and allies.
II.Advocacy
a.Promote institutional understanding of the unique concerns and program service needs of LGBT students, faculty and staff.
b.Identify and bring to the attention of the administration and campus community issues and environmental conditions of special concern that negatively influence student welfare.
c.Advocate for solutions, policies and procedures that promote equity and access, and maintain a safe and respectful living-learning environment for all members of the campus community.
d.Promote the inclusion of LGBT sensitive practices in all University curricular and co-curricular activities, including programming, education, admission and research activities.
III.Community building
a.Initiate collaborative interaction between individuals and agencies on and off-campus.
b.Partner with the LGBT Advisory Board to build and maintain a strong, caring community to support LGBT students, faculty, staff and allies.
c.Maintain positive and productive relationships with LGBT alumni. Provide support for GALABI-related functions during Reunion and Homecoming and throughout the year.  

IV.Administrative/Professional Responsibilities
a.Conduct monthly meetings and maintain regular communication with Office of LGBT Awareness Advisory Board.
b.Partner with the three other diversity offices within the Student Affairs division (Multicultural Student Services, International Student Services and the Women's Resource Center) to align departmental goals, programming and other initiatives as appropriate to contribute to the fulfillment of the University's mission and commitment to diversity.
c.Research grant funding opportunities; coordinate and submit grant proposals for potential funding; direct funded projects and execute program objectives.
d.Remain knowledgeable, current and responsive to changes in the field (including developments in queer, gender, and feminist theories and sexuality studies) and to issues pertinent to the Bucknell student population.
e.Conduct surveys, program evaluations and other forms of assessment to aid in effective appropriation of departmental resources, programs and services. Obtain LGBT related data from other sources on campus; maintain records of applicable research to allow for effective benchmarking and assessment.
f.Recruit, train and supervise student employees and volunteers as needed.
g.Recruit, train and supervise graduate students, support staff and/or professional staff as needed and approved.
h.Serve on other University committees, task forces and advisory boards, as requested.  

Master's degree in Counseling, Student Affairs or a related field.

Three (3) years applicable experience.

Ability to advise, mentor and provide programming for LGBT young adults, and an understanding of the issues and challenges facing the LGBT community.

Ability to collaborate with and build support across diverse communities and at all levels of the organization.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Sense of humor and flexibility.  

Familiarity with student development theory and experience in higher education
