*APA Newsletter on Feminism and Philosophy* * * *Call for Papers* * * *Due Date: April 1, 2012* *Globalizing Feminist Philosophy*** Colleges and universities around the world are intent on “internationalization.” The term means many things to many people. For some, it means attracting foreign students to national institutions or setting up “agreements” between institutions across national lines. For others, it means integrating a comparative, global perspective in the curriculum and in scholarship, shifting focus from the national or parochial to a broader framework that includes the local and the global. Where is philosophy in this movement? As Linda Martin Alcoff has pointed out (“Pluralism and Diversity as Intrinsic Philosophical Concerns”), many philosophers believe that they are doing philosophy from a universal point of view, and that, therefore, their results apply universally. Even if one accepts this understanding of philosophy, feminist and other philosophers argue that the methodology of philosophy, argumentation, requires that the arguers be diverse. However, much of the attention to diversity or pluralism in current discussions of the discipline of philosophy focuses on categories, social and disciplinary, within Anglo-American and Continental philosophy. Should feminist philosophers expand the meaning of pluralism or diversity in philosophy beyond these categories? That is, what would it mean to * globalize* feminist philosophy, or philosophy generally, both in our scholarship and in our teaching? Does it mean applying the concepts and methods of Anglo-American and/or Continental philosophy to global issues? Does it mean modifying methodology, and not just the issues addressed? Does it mean including the philosophical traditions other than our own in our scholarship and teaching? Are we educated to do this? Is globalizing feminist philosophy possible, or desirable? * * *Papers on globalizing feminist philosophy are welcome. Submissions may address scholarship, the discipline of academic philosophy, teaching, institutional factors, or any other relevant issue. Syllabi of courses that globalize feminist philosophy, with sufficient commentary, are also welcome. * * * *Send email submissions to:* * * *Margaret A.
