Northern Arizona University seeks to fill one, benefit eligible, NON-tenure track Assistant Professor of Practice with primary administrative responsibilities for NAU’s College of Arts & Letters’ Philosophy in the Public Interest program, and teaching responsibilities of 1 course per term. Position will be at least .75 FTE.  Position is renewable on a year-to-year basis contingent upon effective performance, department needs, and continued funding.

Minimum Qualifications: Ph. D. in Philosophy in hand by start of contract; minimum 1 year full-time administrative experience managing and fundraising for humanities activities for a broad audience, including the non-academic community; minimum 1 year teaching experience in philosophy with primary responsibility for course design, instruction and student assessment.

 

Preferred candidates will possess a demonstrated excellence in administrative leadership in community outreach as well as excellence teaching philosophy at the undergraduate level.  In addition to standard introductory level courses in philosophy, the department has need of instructional excellence in areas of ethics and applied ethics (including health care ethics, environmental ethics).  Also preferred are candidates with a demonstrated commitment to working with diverse students, staff and faculty.  Send complete dossier consisting of a CV, a statement on the candidate’s vision for the direction of the Philosophy in the Public Interest Program, at least three letters of recommendation, teaching portfolio that includes syllabi, student evaluations, including at least one complete set of course evaluation by students, and to PPI Professor of Practice Search Chair, Department of Philosophy, Box 6011, Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, AZ 86011-6011.
