I've read a million accounts of immigrant women staying in abusive relationships because of the threat of deportation by the abuser, especially women who were "mail-order brides".  Now I can't recall the references!  Help!  If you know one of the places where I must have seen this, please shoot me an email.  I'm right in the middle of writing about it and need my footnotes.
