Rebecca (our brilliant web guru - and also grad student in philosophy) has been working tirelessly to add people and, as far as I can tell, has added hundreds since we launched on Monday.
We started with some lists that already existed and decided to launch before we even finished adding everyone on those. We wanted to make the resource available as soon as we had a critical mass that would give people a sense of the scope of the project. The whole idea of a crowd-sourced resource is that it DEPENDS on everyone participating in creating it and keeping it up to date. No one in philosophy has the time or resources to make it happen otherwise (including the APA!).
Of course in this sort of endeavor, decisions must be made. Some of our initial decisions have been motivated by what is relatively easy to do so we can get the site up and running, what will make it credible so people will WANT to be listed, and how to make it useful to editors, conference organizers, etc. (reliability, ease of use, etc). There is much to be done to improve it, and your suggestions have been very important. This is, as many have said, a work in progress. Keep your suggestions coming!
It breaks my heart that some people feel hurt or disrespected because they weren't on the list at launch. Please accept my apologies for not being clearer about the process. As I hope you now know, our choices about whom to include were not based on "merit." We are working hard to add names and the best way to be sure you will be added is to use the "submit" option on the site. Note too that you can "submit" names other than your own! If you find the "submit" option confusing, just email me your information.
Thanks again to everyone. I want to be very clear, also, that although I have been very involved in creating the directory, Ruth Chang has been the real force behind it, and Rebecca Millsop has been the one to actually create it. Others have done hard work doing data input, finding lists, etc. We work best and most effectively when we collaborate.

themselves. But I do think it is important to keep in mind that this is a
work in progress and we are all urged to contribute by listing our own
names among others we find missing. I just submitted my name and I would
like to urge other not to wait for someone else, but just to fill out a
form--maybe for yourself and someone else among the missing.
