I can add that some wonderful members of MAP participated in PIKSI for the first time this year via google hangout this last summer. They provided the grim overview of the state of the profess
with respect to representation by underrepresented groups, and a history of MAP (or MAPs, emphasizing the organizations local, ground up, organization) which suggested already some of the impact that local organization has had. They have begun a project of
mentorship, the importance of which may prove more symbolic than effective, as I think many of us can attest to the importance of the kind of "up close" support from which many members of FEAST have benefited. But MAP is (or MAPs are) new, so I think we can
look forward to seeing the differences they can make in their own departments, and in the profession.
