UNIVERSITY OF UTAH, SALT LAKE CITY, UT – ASSISTANT PROFESSOR: The Department of Philosophy seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2016. We are seeking applicants with an AOS in Applied Ethics and at least one other area of department strength (e.g., Philosophy of Science). Our ideal applicant will do work at the intersection of those, and help maintain or build connections with other units on campus (e.g., the Division of Medical Ethics and Humanities). `Applied ethics’ here is broadly construed to include work in bioethics, medical ethics, research ethics, environmental ethics, diversity, public health, and others. Teaching load for tenure track faculty at the University of Utah is two courses per semester of undergraduate and graduate teaching.

The Department values its recent recognition as a “women-friendly” department and is committed to pursuing the benefits that such inclusiveness can bring to philosophical inquiry and the classroom. We enthusiastically welcome applications from candidates who have experience working in settings with students from diverse backgrounds and who can help the department recruit members of underrepresented groups as Philosophy Majors. Information pertaining to these issues should be included in your cover letter.

The University of Utah is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity employer and does not discriminate based upon race, national origin, color, religion, sex, age, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, status as a person with a disability, genetic information, or Protected Veteran status. Individuals from historically underrepresented groups, such as minorities, women, qualified persons with disabilities and protected veterans are encouraged to apply. Veterans’ preference is extended to qualified applicants, upon request and consistent with University policy and Utah state law. Upon request, reasonable accommodations in the application process will be provided to individuals with disabilities. To inquire about the University’s nondiscrimination or affirmative action policies or to request disability accommodation, please contact: Director, Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action, 201 S. Presidents Circle, Rm 135, (801) 581-8365.

The University of Utah values candidates who have experience working in settings with students from diverse backgrounds, and possess a strong commitment to improving access to higher education for historically underrepresented students.
