Emory University: Arts and Sciences: Women's Gender and Sexuality Studies
Tenure Track Assistant Professors in WGSS

Location: Atlanta, GA

The Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) at Emory University announces two tenure-track positions at the assistant professor level.  We are searching for two scholars with expertise in gender and/or sexuality who work in one or more of the following areas: diaspora, migration, decolonization, settler colonialism, indigeneity, political action, civil society, social movements (in the US and/or transnationally).  Preference will be given to candidates who are producing innovative work in the study of race/ethnicity.

Emory University has strengths in feminist and queer theory, African-American studies, postcolonial studies, religion, political science, sociology as well as comparative and area studies, and WGSS wishes to enhance its engagement with these fields.  We are open to a variety of disciplinary, interdisciplinary, and methodological approaches to the study of race, gender and sexuality.  The ability to teach feminist or queer theory and core WGSS classes at both graduate and undergraduate levels is essential.  Capacity to help build core teaching on race in the department (e.g., Black Feminist Theory; Critical Race Studies) is an advantage.

Qualifications

A PhD in WGSS or an affiliated field is required.

Application Instructions

Please submit a letter of application, a CV, and the names and contact details of three referees. Writing samples and letters of reference will be called at a later date.

Review of applications will begin on October 3, 2016 and preference will be given to applications received by this date.  No applications will be accepted after November 1, 2016.

Information about WGSS at Emory can be found online, on tumblr and on twitter. Other enquiries can be made to Professor Elizabeth Wilson, Chair, Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, 550 Asbury Circle, Atlanta GA 30322 or [log in to unmask].
