William Paterson University invites applications for a full time tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy to start September 2017. Scholarly area of expertise is open with preference given to specialization in Philosophy of Education, Philosophy of Technology, Philosophy of Medicine, Environmental Philosophy or Applied Ethics. Primary responsibilities will be to teach a variety of specialized undergraduate and interdisciplinary courses, as well as general education University-wide courses. This position may also serve the Department's interdisciplinary program in Liberal Studies and/or the humanities honors track. Engagement in research and publication as well as a commitment to service to the department, college, and the university community is expected and highly valued. A Ph.D. at the time of appointment from an accredited institution and college level teaching experience are required. Preference will be given to philosophers engaged in research that involves current trends and issues such as those arising in STEM fields, as well as philosophical approaches to cities, food scarcity, crime and policing, business, migration, poverty and warfare. In addition, candidates with backgrounds in interdisciplinary areas, as well as those who work in non-traditional or emerging philosophical areas and/or History of Philosophy, will be given preference.
