I was asked to post this message on behalf of Robert Bernasconi.

On behalf of the Search Committee for the Penn State postdoc, I am writing to respond to some of the concerns that have been raised about our recently posted ad.  We framed the ad as we did because of the existing research strengths and mentoring capacity of our department in the areas listed.  We regret deeply that this way of framing the ad gave the impression that we are not interested in applications from indigenous philosophers and/or those working in indigenous philosophy.  On the contrary, we would be delighted to receive applications from indigenous philosophers and/or those working in indigenous philosophy, and we hereby encourage such applications.  (We will post this statement on our website as well). We will look into the possibility of rewriting and reposting the ad but in the event that that is not possible, we do promise to do better when framing similar ads in the future. We hope that the members of the indigenous philosophical community will accept our sincere apologies.

Robert Bernasconi
