Dear Alison,

Thanks for this info. The conference looks wonderful and I'll definitely try to be there for at least the first day.

Looking forward to seeing--and hearing--you!

Registration is open for The Royal Institute of Philosophy Conference 2017 which will take place at the University of Sheffield on the topic of ‘Harms and Wrongs in Epistemic Practice’ on July 3-4.

How we engage in epistemic practice, including our methods of knowledge acquisition and transmission, the personal traits that help or hinder these activities, and the social institutions that facilitate or impede them, is of central importance to our lives as individuals and as participants in social and political activities. In the past decade, sustained philosophical attention has turned to the various ways in which this practice can and does go awry, and the epistemic, moral, and political harms and wrongs that follow. This conference brings together theorists working on a diverse variety of topics to draw attention to the full range of these harms and wrongs, the ways in which they interact, and the ways in which they can be addressed.

In addition to talks from the invited speakers there will be a dedicated poster session showcasing new directions in research on the conference theme.

Attendance is free and by registration only. To register please complete the form here. Registration closes 25th June, but those wishing to attend the conference dinner (£25) or apply for PG bursaries should register by 5th June.

If you have any accessibility, dietary, religious, or other requests or requirements, please enter them in the relevant section of the registration form. The conference has some funds available to provide accessibility equipment or personnel in addition to the site’s permanent facilities, if required. Those wishing to make such a request should indicate this at their earliest possible convenience, and preferably no later than 5th June. Organizers will do their best to meet all requests, but this will be more feasible for those made before this date. Any information entered in this section will be treated confidentially.

Limited funds are available to help cover accommodation and subsistence expenses for post-graduate attendees. If you are a post-graduate research student and wish to apply for a bursary, please tick the appropriate box on the registration form.

This conference has been organised in accordance with the BPA/SWIP-UK Good Practice Scheme.

The conference has been made possible with the support of The Royal Institute of Philosophy. Post-graduate bursaries are provided by The Analysis Trust.
