Good afternoon,

There have been multiple changes over the past year which can affect advising for teacher education admission and licensure. In an effort to support all of our program advising, I will set up meetings for interested faculty and staff to review teacher education admission and licensure requirements early in the fall semester.

Meanwhile, please know that a new SAT cut-off score was established by the VDOE (as below) which may affect incoming students - Math Praxis Core can be waived with a 560 or higher SAT score if taken on or after March 1, 2016. [Remember, we no longer recommend the Praxis Core for reading and writing to our students since VCLA is now a requirement for admission into our teacher education program and fulfills the Praxis requirement. VCLA cannot be waived by other tests.]

As always, please contact me if you have any questions about requirements for our students for admission to teacher education or licensure.

Best,
Dara

SUBJECT: Qualifying Score on the New SAT(r) as a Substitute Test for the Praxis Core Assessment for Entry into a Teacher Preparation Program

The SAT test was redesigned and introduced by the College Board in March 2016. The scoring of the assessment changed; therefore, new qualifying scores were approved allowing the SAT to continue as a substitute test for the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators Test for entry into approved education programs.

On June 22, 2017, the Board of Education approved the Advisory Board on Teacher Education and Licensure's recommendation that the following qualifying scores on the new SAT serve as a substitute test for the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators Test:

SAT Taken Prior to April 1, 1995 - a score of 1000 with at least 450 on the verbal and 510 on the mathematics tests;

SAT Taken On or After April 1, 1995 and Prior to March 1, 2016 - a score of 1100 with at least 530 on the verbal and 530 on the mathematics tests;

SAT Taken On or after March 1, 2016 - a total score of 1170 with at least 580 on Evidence-based Reading and Writing Section and 560 on the Math Section.
