Hello Virginia/DC FLL and FLL Jr teams! Our Maryland neighbors need our help. 😊
Please consider volunteering for Maryland's FIRST LEGO League Championship Tournament on February 24. Refer to the email below from David Baran for more details.
This is a great way for FLL coaches/mentors/parents to learn more about the FLL program. For FLL Jr coaches/parents, this is an excellent way to get an in-depth look at the FLL program. The knowledge and experience that you'll get from volunteering at this event will be valuable for your team.
Thank you for supporting the FIRST LEGO League program.

Subject: Call for Judges - FIRST Lego League Maryland State Championship
Ladies and Gentlemen,
We need 90+ judges for the FIRST Lego League (FLL) MarylandState Championship on February 24th, 2018 at UMBC.
You can help. Forward this to anyone you think may be interested.
You are receiving this email because you have previously judged at a Maryland FLL competition or you have shown an interest in being a judge. Please feel free to forward this email to other qualified individuals with similar interests.
You will work 10 hours (well not quite), make no money, interact with 900 young engineers, get free food, have a blast, be totally exhausted, meet interesting people, and did we say you don't get paid?
But you do get a free T-Shirt!
These are just few reasons why you should volunteer to help with this year's FLL Tournament.
Follow this link to volunteer for the event
There are lots of ways to get involved. , This call is for Judges, but we also need Referees, Judge's Assistants, Emcee, Pit Runners, Team Queuers, Practice Table Managers, Setup and Breakdown Crew, etc.
Judging categories and qualifications:
1. Robot Design – This category judges the technical merits of the robot in terms of strategy, programming, and mechanical design. Judges should have computer, scientific or technical backgrounds.
2. Project – Teams are also required to do a research project on an issue related to this years theme, Hydro Dynamics. In this category, teams present their project and are judged on the quality of their research, solution, and presentation. Judges should have a technical, scientific, or research backgrounds.
3. Core Values – This area judges a team on their ability to be enthusiastic and show partnership, work as a team, and support and encourage both their teammates and the other teams they are competing against. Judges in this category do not need to have a technical background. Any leader who recognizes, practices, or teaches teamwork would make an exceptional judge. Good prospects are team coaches, military professionals, teachers, police officers, Eagle Scouts, etc.
Judges will need to plan to be at UMBC from approximately 7 AM to 3 PM on February 24, 2018.
Please volunteer! I promise it will be a day you will always remember.
