Subject: Fwd: FW: TOK Conference Game Plan for Presenters

All,

I would like to echo Gregg's gratitude and share Waldemar's appreciation. It was an honor to participate in the Big ToK conference. Yes, despite the range of topics in the talks, there were common threads that we need to pull together.

I thank Waldemar for the New Yorker article, and I attach a 20-year old paper by cultural historian Richard Tarnas--The Great Initiation--that was among several serendipitous moments that helped the honors course "Black Elk to Black Holes" hang together
back in 1999. Despite its age, I still find it one of the most seminal articles I have ever read. I hope it resonates with some of you also.

"Mitakuye oyasin,"
Dave

Dear TOK Society members:

The conference was spectacular.

I have something to share and to which I draw the attention of Chance.
This was sent to me by my daughter, a fine artist.
I believe you’ll find it interesting, particularly in light of presentations at the conference and especially Chance’s.

Here it is:

Hi TOK Presenters,

I am writing to confirm that we are getting things squared away for the TOK conference. As I have mentioned we are all set up for PC Power Point presentations. Let me know if you need something other than that (MAC or need to connect to the internet or need audio-visual aids). If you have your presentations ready in advance of your talk, you can email them to me, and I will place them on the computer. If not, please bring a thumb drive with the presentations on them. If you have handouts that you would like to be included in the folders participants will be receiving, please let me know now and then send those to me ASAP.

In terms of the schedule, I am planning on heading over to the Hampton Inn on Thursday with my van. I will definitely be there by noon, but may swing by earlier. I will let you know.

At the Hampton Inn, I plan on meeting up with: Waldemar, John, Joe, Steve Q., Chance, and (probably) Nancy. We will then drive over to the Madison Grille for lunch at 12:30 pm. That will go to about 2:00 pm, at which point we will head over to the conference in Madison Hall. We will then hang out in a large meeting room for conversation and move over to the conference room for the presentations at 3:00 pm. There will be approximately 25 people there.

Blaine, Steve K., and Dave P will find their way to the conference room (Dave, I assume you can get there; Steve K and Blaine, you should have received parking information).

At around 7:00ish, we will wrap up and head over to Clementine’s and then back to the hotel after dinner.

Frank, you are slotted to arrive Friday morning, and you too should have received parking information about that.

If there are any questions or any other needs or concerns, please let me know.

Best,
Gregg

PPS Although I do not think you will need them, I am attaching the maps/conference info if for any reason you need them.
