I want to call to your attention this new position in philosophy at Amherst College:

The Department of Philosophy at Amherst College invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in philosophy at the rank of assistant professor. The area of specialization and area of competence are open. Within the last decade, Amherst College has profoundly transformed the composition of its student body, especially in terms of socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and nationality. Today, nearly one-quarter of Amherst's students are Pell Grant recipients, and many are first-generation students; 45 percent of our students identify as domestic students of color; 10 percent are international students. Our expectation is that the successful candidate will excel at teaching and mentoring a student body that is broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion.

The successful candidate will offer four courses per year, including an introductory early modern philosophy course, as well as courses in the individual's areas of research. We seek someone who demonstrates promise of excellence in both scholarship and teaching. Candidates must have the Ph.D. degree in hand or all requirements for the degree fulfilled by the start of the appointment. Amherst College is an equal opportunity employer and encourages those of all genders, persons of color, and persons with disabilities to apply. The college is committed to enriching its educational experience and its culture through the diversity of its faculty, administration, and staff.

Candidates should submit their applications electronically to (https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__apply.interfolio.com_52325&d=DwIFAg&c=eLbWYnpnzycBCgmb7vCI4uqNEB9RSjOdn_5nBEmmeq0&r=HUp8-bkYMlNgd3ZJBxWBKsBsFAFGHrEZg21p9gxugJA&m=CGSDOeiRayOuA3420v1_aC8liCs5Vv7usGYqwlmKNTs&s=_GG49AmRtYQpy5pUfM5k6ojmdZWXXU55y0da0HAztko&e=). This should consist of a letter of application, a curriculum vitae, three confidential letters of recommendation, a writing sample, and syllabi for two proposed courses. Review of applications will begin on November 15, 2018, and continue until the position is filled. Completed applications received by this date will be assured of full consideration.

Amherst College is a private undergraduate liberal arts college with 1,800 students and more than 200 faculty members. The average class size at Amherst College is nineteen. Located in the Connecticut River Valley of western Massachusetts, Amherst participates with Hampshire, Mount Holyoke, and Smith Colleges and the University of Massachusetts in the Five College consortium.

And I will add that Amherst College is a great place to teach with small classes and bright students eager to learn, and it's also a great place to be a philosopher with a large and friendly group of philosophers throughout the Five Colleges. Finally, this area of Massachusetts is quite welcoming to and supportive of all individuals and families.
