The Department of Women’s and Gender Studies invites applications for a tenure-track position:  Interdisciplinary Research Methods and Methodology, and Critical Race/Ethnic Studies, at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning fall 2019.  Responsibilities include new course development, teaching Feminist Inquiry (WGST 300) and Feminist Methodology (WGST 540), and enhancing departmental connections with community organizations. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester, with opportunities for research support.

 

The EMU Women’s and Gender Studies Department was founded as a program in 1975, offered Michigan’s first Minor in Women’s Studies, and became a department in 2009.   The department currently offers an undergraduate major and minor in Women’s and Gender Studies, a Queer Studies minor, an MA in Women’s and Gender Studies, and a graduate certificate in Sexualities or Globalization.  The department is interdisciplinary, with its own dedicated faculty and department members from colleges across the University and the University Library. The EMU student body is one of the most racially and ethnically diverse in Michigan, and EMU is recognized as a Premier LGBTQ-friendly campus by the Campus Pride Index.  More information about WGST@EMU is available at http://www.emich.edu/wgstudies/

 

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Women’s and Gender Studies, or in a related field, by the time of appointment; evidence of commitment to teaching excellence in Women’s and Gender Studies at the undergraduate and graduate level; a dedicated research agenda in the interdisciplinary field of Women’s and Gender Studies; and the demonstrated ability to work in a culturally and racially diverse environment. ABD candidates will be considered with letters of support stating that all requirements for the degree will be met by the beginning of the term hired. Demonstrated record of research and/or work with local, regional, national or global community organizations is desirable.
