Thanks Gregg! Funny you should mention Daoism - I too have been learning about it under advice like yours - and that many of my struggles to understand are not unlike the Dao (even if my take is much more western of course)

Thanks for your explanation - i can see what you mean. I really really like your diagrams as you probably know. I found them when I was studying a French dissertation with some images like it, and wanted to see more (she teaches at Michigan now I believe). I agree - we have a still life painting on the wall, and it reminds me of the need to hold everything still in one frame or model, while we try to encompass everything in a universal work. Staring at it is a kind of metaphysical experience - I almost expect the objects to leap into action. It's very powerful. Da Vinci is said to have deliberately left his works unfinished for the same reason - and your diagrams often feel that way to me - finished yet suggestive too.

Again, thanks for the helpful explanation. I can think of your metaphysical modeling as a still life - capturing the relationships while allowing the audience to imagine their dynamic.
