Hi All,

Yes, Alison, it would be wonderful if you would be willing to spearhead the DWP award while this all gets settled!

Your help and experience/expertise is much appreciated,
Amy

Hi All,

Pacific SWIP has been struggling with the same challenges as reported for E-SWIP – difficulty in finding colleagues who would serve in the various offices. As a result, much of what we do has been to support others who hold more regional/local symposia and events, support graduate student participation in related events, and support colleagues offering panels and sessions at P-APA, etc. Our operations are therefore incredibly, unfortunately, minimal.

I do appreciate your efforts to revive E-SWIP, and hope that it begins to inspire a revival of P-SWIP as well. It seems, of the three divisions, MidWest-SWIP is the most operationally intact. If they are able to sponsor and organize the Distinguished Woman Philosopher award, that would be wonderful! Perhaps, additionally, and beyond the award issue, we need to have a conversation about SWIP’s revival and renewal more generally.

Cheers,

I think that would be great.   Johanna and Amy, is this OK with you?

Dear Sally,

Thank you for your leadership in reviving ESWIP. Until that division is functioning again, I wonder if the process of selecting a Distinguished Woman Philosopher of the Year might be taken over by one of the other divisions, or perhaps by Midwest SWIP and Pacific SWIP working together? I have previously served on the selection committee and I'd be glad to do so again for a bit.

Best,
Alison

Dear all:

ESWIP has been on hiatus due a lack of volunteers to be officers.  The previous officers and a couple of others (including me) are trying to revive it.  Towards this end, we are creating an ESWIP email list.  This list will be a way to communicate with ESWIP about the Distinguished Woman Philosopher of the Year, about ESWIP panels and sessions at the APA, about ESWIP workshops, conferences, etc.  You do not need to pay dues to be on the email list.  Women philosophers and feminist allies are welcome to join.  (Note too that SWIPs don't have a geographical residence requirement!)

In the past, ESWIP has been run by an Executive Secretary and a Treasurer.  It is open to ESWIP to revise its structure and be run by a Steering Committee or something of that sort.   One person has agree to help but not be an "officer," so if we get a few people to step up to help, a committee structure might work.  (It may even be worth reconsidering the divisional structure of SWIP and join forces in a national SWIP - you could be part of this conversation!) The form that invites you to sign up for the list also asks about whether you might help in other ways. If we don't find a new governance structure, ESWIP will disappear.  This is your opportunity to be part of the new SWIP! :)

Please complete this form to be on the ESWIP email list.  Please spread the word - forward this to your lists.

best, Sally
