Beyond this experiment, it has been shown that worms can modify their environment, and that the progeny can assimilate such 'knowledge' from the soil, expanding on the significance of Niche Construction. The merging of development and Niche Construction brings new significance to ecosystems as interactive products of organisms and their surroundings, animating social systems in 4 dimensions IMHO.
