Sorry, List, I included the wrong link to my blog. Here is the right one: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/theory-knowledge/201504/your-version-reality-and-mine From: Henriques, Gregg - henriqgx Sent: Tuesday, March 17, 2020 10:09 AM To: [log in to unmask] <[log in to unmask]> Subject: "we would both be right" Hi TOK List, I thought this essay on marriage and the coronavirus was worthwhile. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/16/opinion/coronavirus-relationships.html?nl=todaysheadlines&emc=edit_th_200317&campaign_id=2&instance_id=16829&segment_id=22299&user_id=8e4f03af2447d5adeb5069c9fb9bdf47®i_id=352238940317 It reminded me of a few things regarding taking others perspectives and holding multiple truths. For example, it reminded me that I used to give a lecture on justification dynamics and filtering as part of a workshop on building multicultural competency. In it, I would set up the fact that my Dad was a history professor who studied George Washington and then discussed how different folks might view Washington. I then played this clip from Dave Chappelle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DmcdlyOUoM. The specific comment pops up at about 1 minute in, and I would share the first 90 seconds of the clip (with a warning about language 😊). It also reminded me of this blog I did on taking perspectives in romantic relationships: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/16/opinion/coronavirus-relationships.html?nl=todaysheadlines&emc=edit_th_200317&campaign_id=2&instance_id=16829&segment_id=22299&user_id=8e4f03af2447d5adeb5069c9fb9bdf47®i_id=352238940317 Finally, I thought this was a good article on how to “reframe” how during this crisis we might adjust in ways that are beneficial: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/culture-mind-and-brain/202003/there-is-good-news-about-the-coronavirus Take care to all!
