Hello,

I had the same impression as Nik, in that the context was unclear. I do wonder about his principle regarding no hierarchy or organizational structure, as that seems to lack a necessary component of how something such as what he seems to propose would emerge. Especially in the context of translation to governmental policy. Without some sort of hierarchy and supervision agenda, how would well-intentioned interests and ideas of the young people who propose them pass up to the level of social policy and eventually be implemented in a reasonable way? Is making enough random noise sufficient, and how is that noise translated if not through hierarchies of competence?

Best,

Cole

I'm not sure the exact context in which he is writing this for, like if CYL is the program or project he refers to, but if this is a standalone document he should probably include some sort of abstract/preamble to set the stage for his founding principles. Aside from that I would just recommend he read it through out loud to catch a few grammatical typo's and misplaced words. These principles in substance are certainly sufficient and meaningful if directed towards application in underserved areas on the community level (i.e., the grassroots that he mentions), but can also be effective for driving local gov't policy changes to effect larger existing social structures as well. I like his framework, it seems to embody a lot of what we advocate for in TOK.

Hi TOK List,

My friend and colleague Gerry Young developed the attached document regarding universal principles of welfare, dignity and respect, and asked that it be shared for comment and feedback. I will forward any messages to him that you might want me to.

Best,

Gregg
