The Department of Philosophy at California State University, Fullerton, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Philosophy with appointment to begin Fall 2021. 

Area of Specialization: 18th-19th century philosophy (preferred) or other areas in the History of Philosophy (the department has teaching needs in all areas of history) 

Area of Competence: Latin American philosophy (especially preferred), Africana philosophy, Native American/Indigenous philosophy, and/or other areas of non-Western philosophy (the Department already has existing strengths in Asian philosophy, therefore non-Asian philosophy is preferred) 

Position 

We seek applicants with primary teaching and research specializations in 18th-19th century philosophy (preferred) or other areas in the History of Philosophy (the department has teaching needs in all areas of history). Candidates with active research agendas and/or teaching experience in Latin American philosophy (especially preferred), Africana philosophy, Native American/Indigenous philosophy, and/or other areas of non-Western philosophy are particularly encouraged to apply (the Department already has existing strengths in Asian philosophy, therefore non-Asian philosophy is preferred). 

Responsibilities include teaching a wide range of courses in all areas of philosophy, at the upper- and lower-division levels, introductory, and general education courses. Candidates should be capable of and invested in developing courses in such areas as Latin American philosophy, Africana philosophy, Native American/Indigenous philosophy, and/or other areas of non-Western philosophy. Positive tenure and promotion decisions require consistently excellent teaching; high-quality peer-reviewed publications; research and other relevant scholarly activities; student advising; and service to the department, college, and university.

The Department 

The Philosophy Department at California State University, Fullerton, values excellence in teaching, excellence in research, pluralism, and collegiality. The Department holds an annual Symposium every spring, which consists of a two-day conference on a specific topic. We also hold an annual distinguished speaker series in the Fall, supported by William Alamshah, who was a founding member of the department. In additional to our popular Major and Minor programs, the Department has a Concentration in Moral, Legal and Social Philosophy for the Professions. This Concentration is designed for students who are considering professional careers in such areas as law, medicine, business, public administration, or politics.

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications, and is subject to budgetary authorization and any California State University System faculty contract increases.
