Hi TOK Folks,
Just an FYI to follow up on my note to the list yesterday about dealing with a “family issue”. Andee and I received a call distressed call from our son who was in serious pain on his side. After some consultations with a family member
who is a physician, it was deemed wise to head to the ER, where he was diagnosed with
acute appendicitis and had surgery.
It was scary for a bit; if those things rupture you are looking at massive complications, and sometimes even death. But we received excellent care and the modern laparoscopic surgery techniques mean a pretty quick recovery. If all goes
well, he will be “ok” today with pain meds and then feeling pretty good in 48 hours.
Thanks for all the notes of support. A good reminder of what is important in life—and how quickly what you assume to be rock solid can potentially fall away at the whim of the gods. Also, although I often bitch about modernity and all its
problems, I am very happy we are living in a time when we can so effectively care for problems like this.
Best,
Gregg
