Please mark your calendar! The Steering Committee of the Eastern Division of the Society for Women in Philosophy will hold a ceremony to honor Dr. Ann Garry at the upcoming Eastern Division meeting.  Dr. Garry is the recipient of the 2020 Distinguished Woman Philosopher award, which recognizes outstanding scholarly contributions to the discipline of philosophy, as well as service within the discipline, including committee work, mentoring women and people of color, and promoting equity within the disciplineSeveral colleagues and friends of Dr. Garry will reflect on her work and contributions to the field, and we encourage everyone to bring their beverage of choice to toast this year’s recipient!

 

The event will take place on Saturday January 16 from 11am-12:50pm EST. (It is listed as “20M” on the APA Eastern Division Program, which can be found here.)  Registration for the conference is required for attendance. If you have been impacted by COVID-19 or are unemployed or underemployed and need assistance with registration fees, you may apply for a partial fee waiver . About Dr. Garry:
Dr. Garry is Professor Emerita at California State University at Los Angeles, where she was the founding director of the Center for the Study of Genders and Sexualities. In addition to numerous journal articles, she has co-edited a special issue of Hypatia (with Talia Bettcher) entitled Transgender Studies and Feminism: Theory, Politics, and Gender Realities (2009). She also co-edited (with Marilyn Pearsall) Women, Knowledge, and Reality: Explorations in Feminist Philosophy (Routledge, 1996) and with Alison Stone and Serene Khader, The Routledge Companion to Feminist Philosophy (2017). She has held visiting appointments as the Humphrey Chair of Feminist Philosophy at the University of Waterloo in Canada, and as a Fulbright Professor at University of Tokyo and Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest. She received her PhD from the University of Maryland. (Her full CV can be accessed here).
