Hello Gregg ~

Elevator speeches are supposed to be like 30 seconds or less, right? So if this is an elevator at a peer support conference, I might say something like:

"You know how it seems like a lot of people are diagnosed with mental health issues, and sometimes mental health services make them better and sometimes worse, and the diagnosis itself can be really confusing and keep changing? And how no one seems to agree on the best form of therapy a lot of the time? And you know how a lot of people that we work with seem to have trouble finding meaning in their life, and even when they are told that they've 'recovered' from mental illness they still suffer? Well, the Unified Theory of Knowledge really looks at the roots of these problems. It turns out that we don't really even know what things like 'mind' and 'behavior' are, and helping clarify all that can lead to a more reasonable, kind, human-centered way to look at what we call 'mental health.' This requires a much better structure for understanding the mind than we've had before, and that's what UTOK gives us."

I might throw in "holistic" as well, but that could lead to some thinking that UToK is an essential oil-based system.

Anyway, that's for a peer support, non-clinician perspective. They often don't have a ton of schooling, but are intensely skeptical of the mental health field on an instinctive level..

Best,
R

Thanks, Gregg, for the summary.  I need to read and reread it. Ricoeur, your summary and additional material, ergonomics, human factors engineering, game theory, cybernetics, phenomenology, my book, need to be in an anthology.

Best,

Hi Folks,

Attached is my “overview/intro” that I share with folks when the express an interest in my work. I share it here to see if anyone who is interested might take a look and see how it sounds. I am definitely looking to update and drill down the elevator pitch response to the question What is the Unified Theory of Knowledge and What does it do for us?

I welcome any feedback or suggestions anyone might have.

Best,

Gregg
