Rachel, thanks for your comments here. I really resonated with your note about the "impossible dogma" that's generated in certain circles.

Gregg, I'm planning to reach out to the Executive Director at my workplace to see if Greg Thomas could speak to race, cultural intelligence, and healing...if he's also willing : )

Thanks for your comments James and Michael!

Lene, another excellent article. Thanks so much for sharing! I'm planning on reading the other content he's written for Quillette.

I think I'll send Ferguson an email and invite him to the listserv!?!? Or Gregg H., is that something you'd want to do?

Warmly,

Ali

The same gentleman wrote this piece: https://quillette.com/2020/12/03/resisting-the-mourners-veto/ and I suddenly recalled reading Arthur Miller's The Crucible in high school.

Alexis Kenney, and Gregg:

The resignation letter is deep, brilliant, and relevant. I suppose it could apply also to the American Philosophical Association, of which I am a member. My background is philosophy, and I learning psychology as I listen to Gregg, you and others professionally trained in psychology.

To quote Gregg, "with sadness for the American Psychological Assoc.,"

This is powerful article and resonates strongly with my experience and perspective.

There is just ideological capture everywhere.

This, BTW, is why I think those with a metamodern perspective are so crucial. My friend Greg Thomas came to my class last fall and gave a simply brilliant presentation on race, cultural intelligence, healing and moving forward. It was riveting and inspiring and had the doc students talking in such a productive way. We must find ways to move in this direction. Else the “religion of woke fundamentalism” will become the law of the land.

With sadness for the APA,

Gregg

Hello Ali ~

I noticed John McWhorter mentioned in that article. I recently saw him on Andrew Yang's show, and it was really good. There was an especially good section about the contradictions in what McWhorter considers religious dogma among some racial social justice crowds. (Dovetailing with Vervaeke and others in the characterization of a "pseudoreligion.") Unfortunately, you see this impossible dogma also prevalent in queer communities - for instance, "Gender doesn't matter," and "you must always get pronouns correct." I say this as a member of that community. It’s sad to realize that some of your “allies” are as scary as your enemies. A bit Orwellian, even.

Best,

R

Might of interest to clinicians on the listserv:

Would welcome thoughts if folks wanted to share!

Warmly,

Ali
