I did experience you as sincere about believing in human nature, and then, separately, I projected my own sense of irony over your comments about humans building [impermanent] constructs or structures and then fighting to the death over them because it's "what we do."

Warmly and respectfully the same,

-Chance

Faith in human nature is not the same as immortality- no one or thing is immortal - everything is impermanent, Chance. I was not joking. Life and living it are always surprising - perhaps that is the problem of psychology, I don’t know.
Warmly, respectfully, Always,

Tyler,

Appreciating your reply. We do have much incentive to embody eternal optimism.  Decisively erecting the TOK as our personal immortality project, in part for the explicit sake of participating in an immortality project to satisfy the fundamental need to do so, is a humorous thought.

Warmly,

Faith, Chance.

Humans always search and construct something and then fight to the death over it with others who have done the same thing. We are currently in the process of doing that in the corner of the world where people have behaved that way since the Bronze Age. We are having our Iron Curtain moment.

I don’t know that psychoanalysis is the problem of psychology or that it is what we have in psychoanalysis is because we have the problem of psychology.

I enjoy TOK and we will erect something because that’s what humans do. I get frustrated with human nature but I have faith in it.

Warmly,
Tyler

Tyler,

Yes!  We are waiting for some kind of Godot.  From the TOK perspective, we will continue to feel rising anxiety and be at risk for running amok due to a lack of superordinate and shared justification system that can make sense of our current and ongoing reality.

When you mention a "post-psychoanalytic" world, I wonder if you mean psychology's confusion about the value of individuation and ego strengthening versus relativism and the allure of collectivist and eastern values?  Curious also about what you think is missing from the current discourse on what our loadstar is or could be?

This looks great, thanks for sharing. I like Friston’s work very much.

I presented at his Active Inference lab a bit ago:

This is a fascinating conversation, at 1:20 they talk about "derealization" of the psyche/self in the process of consciousness introspection and exploration. Also they talk about model and data analysis of both world views and hypotheses.
