Thanks, Gregg:
You probably know that Derek Bok's wife has, I recall, done a book on lying.  Kant was not totally correct in demanding an end to lying. There are nuances.

Hi Folks,

I thought I would share that I happened to see this blog exploring a “theory of lying”:

https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.psychologytoday.com_us_blog_the-2Dnature-2Ddeception_202203_theory-2Dlying-2Dand-2Ddishonesty&d=DwIFaQ&c=eLbWYnpnzycBCgmb7vCI4uqNEB9RSjOdn_5nBEmmeq0&r=HPo1IXYDhKClogP-UOpybo6Cfxxz-jIYBgjO2gOz4-A&m=usCeEdG-TBDANgTBvdqvF92GaP39Ko7GXy-T8Muh4b0&s=y5m1upD-1KJhjsfCuj7fcdKWLx9hrHg5dK_bxXH8EvA&e=

The author notes that although much has been done on lying, there is not much in the way of a broad conceptual framework. As such, he perceives to offer one. Any time I see this kind of thing, I see whether or not the framework can be assimilated and integrated into UTOK.

In this case, I think the answer is yes. That is, BIT, the Matrix and JUST, especially the Updated Tripartite Model and the filters of consciousness give a clear frame that I would say overlaps directly with this authors basic insights. That is, he emphasizes the utility function and the cost internally and externally. Meaning, there is the investment function of the effort relative to the internal moral value function (ego) and external (persona/influence).

I share this to make the point that what we need in human psychology is a general picture of the ontology of human persons.

Best,
Gregg
