Here's a little-known but excellent podcast - "The Great Simplification" by Nate Hagens.
https://www.thegreatsimplification.com
and
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWJOjGOpN8oSVr_OoJLzk9g
"A podcast that explores the systems science underpinning the human predicament"

Much of the content relates to Ecological Economics, and specifically Nate's PhD research into understanding our civilizational trajectory based on our use of energy. It's a bit of a single-factor analysis with precious little about the interior (culture and consciousness), but well-argued nevertheless. I found him after he interviewed Daniel Schmachtenberger, and was disturbed by his analysis about the switch to renewables, seriously undermining the optimism of the ReThinkX folk.

Thought I would share that reading his obit, this sentence caught my eye:

“As an expert on insects, Dr. Wilson studied the evolution of behavior, exploring how natural selection and other forces could produce something as extraordinarily complex as an ant colony. He then championed this kind of research as a way of making sense of all behavior — including our own.”

Note that the meaning of the word “behavior” here is exactly B. F. Skinner’s meaning. And that should raise questions about the relationship between E O Wilson’s views and B F Skinner’s views. Which actually is fascinating, and discussed here: E.O. Wilson and B.F. Skinner: A Dialogue Between Sociobiology and Radical Behaviorism.

Note, in UTOK, the meaning of the “evolution of behavior” is the same as Mind or the evolution of mental behavior. It is mapped here:

This is just a friendly reminder about why the metaphysics/ontology/epistemology of “mind and behavior” is so broken and why we need UTOK/ToK to fix it.

Speaking of E O Wilson, I just saddened to learned that he passed away in December of last year.

Hi TOK Friends,

Wonderful to see I can just drop a request for podcasts out there and get such helpful responses.

I have been somewhat busy lately. I know a thread was opened on DID which I did not reply and will try to do so.

Also, thanks Nik for the E O Wilson quote. He is probably my favorite naturalist, and the best (and more elegant and erudite) synonym for “unified” in UTOK is “consilience” from his excellent book by that title.

Best,
Gregg

Hi Folks,

I am writing to see if folks have good recommendations for podcasts.

My preferences are the metamodern, dialogos, and science type podcasts. Of course, I listen to Voices with Vervaeke. I also listen to Integral Stage with Bruce and Layman, Sean Carroll’s Mindscape, usually Rebel Wisdom, sometimes Future Thinkers. Sometimes Lex Fridman.

Any others in the science/metamodern space that folks like? Or other lesser known spaces that can be recommended?

Best,
Gregg
