Job Description

We invite applications for the position of Kirk Postdoctoral Scholar for a two-year term, 2022-2024, renewable for a third year. The James T. and Ella Rather Kirk Fund was established to enrich the disciplines of Art, English, History, Music and Philosophy at Agnes Scott College; the inaugural Scholar will be a philosopher. 

Kirk Scholars will teach 3 courses per year, actively pursue their research agendas, participate in department and faculty meetings and events, deliver Kirk Lectures at the college, and mentor students. No college-wide service work is required. Salary and compensation are competitive and include travel funding and internal research grant opportunities.

We are interested in candidates who can help diversify the college’s traditional liberal arts curriculum and have experience relevant to teaching and mentoring students underrepresented in philosophy. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience with inclusive pedagogy and demonstrate a commitment to diversity in their research. Candidates may also discuss any aspects of their background or experience that would contribute to the diversity of our faculty. 

Excellence in undergraduate teaching and an effective and sustainable research program are necessary for renewal of this position. 


Qualifications 

A PhD in philosophy must be received by August 2022, or within the previous five years.
