Dear ESWIP Members,

Greetings from Johanna Luttrell and Amy Nigh, your new ESWIP secretary and treasurer. We both look forward to meeting and working with the many ESWIP members, and, in general, promoting the positive encouragement and recognition of women and feminist-friendly scholars in our field!

FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS: ESWIP DUES

It’s that time of year again! We are reaching out to you today to kindly ask you to submit your annual membership dues to ESWIP. Eastern SWIP is supported by annual dues and sometimes receives institutional support from the colleges and universities that agree to host our annual conference.  Our funds are spent mainly on our annual conference expenses (light refreshments and room fees) and a panel at the Eastern APA. Additionally, as a member of SWIP, you are entitled to a discount on a print subscription to Hypatia: A Journal of Feminist Philosophy. After paying your SWIP dues, please go to the Hypatia subscription page directly to subscribe.

Following are the current rates for SWIP dues:

Full-time professional    $30.00
Part-time professional    $20.00
Student/underemployed     $10.00

SECOND ORDER OF BUSINESS: CALL FOR COMMITTEE MEMBERS

Each year the Eastern Division of the Society for Women in Philosophy comes together to honor a woman philosopher whose contributions to the support of women in philosophy and to philosophy itself are outstanding and merit special recognition.  

ESWIP is currently in the process of filling some open spots on a committee of members to serve on the selection board.  If you are interested, please email Johanna Luttrell ([log in to unmask] ) with a short note of introduction and a CV by MAY 15, 2015.  Selections and notifications will be announced on May 22nd.  Please put “DWP Committee” in the subject line.

Committee members will have the responsibilities of reading through nomination letters and working with other members of the board to narrow down the pool to one winner.  Nominations for the DWP will be distributed (via email) among committee members in the first week of June and the name of this year’s award announced June 15th.
