I sent the following post to the SWIP list this morning. But that is a moderated list and Judith must have a full day today. So, I'll send it here, too, since this is now coming up on the FEAST list, as well.

Nancy Tuana and I have been working for several years now on a feminist philosophers digital archive that will consist of in-depth interviews we are doing with feminist philosophers. Our procedure has to been to spend two days with each scholar and capture at least 6 hours of film. To date, we have interviewed and filmed Linda Alcoff, Anita Allen, Sandra Bartky, Susan Bordo, Claudia Card, Lorraine Code, Marilyn Frye, Ann Garry, Carol Gould, Sandra Harding, Virginia Held, Sarah Hoagland, Alison Jaggar, Eva Kittay, Genevieve Lloyd, Maria Lugones, Mary Mahowald, Diana Meyers, Sara Ruddick, and Ofelia Schutte.
In each case, we have captured 6-8 hours of film, and we are now in the process of editing these down to two-hour versions that we will be making available for classroom use and libraries. We have five of these completed (Sandra Bartky, Susan Bordo, Sandra Harding, Nel Noddings, and Sara Ruddick) and, as I write, they are being remastered by a firm that will have them to me by the time of the Hypatia 25th Anniversary Conference in Seattle October 22-34. Our plan is to continually show these edited versions of the interviews we have ready near the registration desk at the conference. This is, then, a sort of coming-out moment for the the project, which is called "Feminist Philosophers: In Their Own Words."
As we have the edited versions finished and duplicated, we will post them for sale ($40 each for individuals, $100 each for institutions) at a page that is waiting to be activated on the Penn State web site. As I said, we're at the final step with this first set of interviews - professional production and duplication.
So - there will very soon be some new images out there!

Joan Callahan is the person who's been conducting these interviews. The clips I've seen have been fabulous, and she has been working on the project for several years. I'm curious, too, to find out where things stand with this (and to find out when/where the finished videos will be available).

Hello Everyone, As people were discussing this issue, I was watching the questionable video "Nietzsche and the Nazis (2006)" available from Netflix. This is something that circulates to potentially millions of people. His funding stream is interesting, (see below).
We really need something in DVD available to us and our students on youtube, netflix, and elsewhere. I fear we are all reinventing the wheel in much of our teaching and research. I'm always pulling together pictorial sources as well as learning about newly re-discovered historical figures.
1. Where can we get funded?
2. Can we get someone interested in making a film about feminist philosophy , about the history of Swip? Would Astra Taylor who did Zizek! and Examined Life be interested? Could we give her an interesting angle?
3. We have archival video, I have a vhs tape of the 10th annual SWIP meeting at SMITH (thank you Kathy Pyne Parsons Addleson, et al).
4. Mary Ellen Waithe of SSWP is putting together a DVD called BUSTED: A PICTORIAL HISTORY OF WOMEN PHILOSOPHERS FROM ANTIQUITY TO THE 21ST CENTURY. Can we support her efforts?
5. Any ideas?
