Good afternoon,

Please note the following important information related to field experiences and education courses:

1. I am happy to announce that we now have a new online form for practicum submissions. Please include the following site on your field experience syllabi (see Practicum Information) and remind students that the deadline to submit is the second Friday of each semester: http://www.jmu.edu/coe/esc/fieldexperience.shtml. Please recycle any paper forms you might still have on hand! The ESC will contact the program and instructor for any students who have not met the deadline. Students should NOT be permitted to begin their practicum-level field experience without submitting a practicum form each semester. This form is in lieu of students paying for a background check.

2. Just a quick reminder that students should not be able to register for education courses without the proper requisites being met. Each program determines if the requisites include 1) applying to teacher education (01), 2) acceptance to teacher education (02), and 3) for student teaching - all course sections should include an 03 requisite. The system has changed over the years - REMINDER: it is currently the responsibility of each program and the administrative assistant who creates courses to make sure that the requisite is in place as described by the Registrar below:

1) All students who meet the requirements that you have set forth need to be placed in one of three student groups: those who have applied to Teacher Education, those who have been accepted to teacher education, and those who meet teacher education and program requirements for student teaching.

2) The Registrar has created enrollment requirement groups that includes those student groups.

a. Teacher ED 01 - 005010

b. Teacher ED 02 - 000054

c. Teacher ED 03 - 000055

3) When the requirement group is placed at the catalog or class level, only the students who are members of those student groups will be permitted to enroll in the designated classes. Here is information on enrollment requirements including catalog requisites and class association requisites. Specific information can be found beginning on page 21:

https://www.jmu.edu/registrar/faculty-staff/_files/class_scheduling_booklet.pdf

4) The departments may place the requirement group numbers listed above in the requirement group box under the class association requisites section of the

Adjust Class Associations pages. If the department wishes the requisite to apply at the catalog level, and it currently does not, then that department will need to put a change through the C&I process that adds that prerequisite.

Please let me know if you have any questions!
