Thank you. I'm glad to help in any way that I can from my home North of Pittsburgh, PA. This is very exciting as I think such a project is much needed and will become such an excellent resource for all who may need it or want such a resource.

Subject: Re: Feminist Philosophy Archives

I hope all three of you, Kelly, Samantha, Christina, will undertake this, with masses of blessings from feminist philosophers all over.

When the word is out that there is such a thing as this archive, I'm thinking many of us will manage to scare up significant artifacts and documents. For me, as for many of us, perhaps, there is some tension between putting things in such an archive, and putting them with my own papers (which are accumulating in the Lesbian Herstory Archive). But I'll sort that out somehow. Of course, one archive can refer researchers to other archives, as necessary.

Hi Joan and colleagues,

The committee (and also using the Pembroke archive) sound great to me.

If books are of interest, I can donate an original copy of Women and Philosophy and, harder to find, the issue of The Philosophical Forum on which it was based (1973-74!). That may have been the first collection on feminist philosophy (ever?). If I can find any interesting correspondence with my co-editor Marx Wartofsky, who welcomed the new direction, I'd be glad to pass that along. The book included early articles by Alison, Virgina, Eva, and many others.

         All best,
          Carol

Dear Ones,

Three young scholars very quickly came forward to volunteer to work on creating a Feminist Philosophy Archive in response to the recent discussion on this FEAST list.

I suggest that we endorse them to form a committee to take up this issue. This can be, easily enough, done under the "mantle" of FEAST. It can begin here -- it can move if that is best down the road.

Thus, I nominate the following people to originate a Feminist Philosophy Archive Project:

Kelly Hudgins Ball <[log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>>
Samantha Noll <[log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>>
Christina Rawls <[log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>>

I further suggest that Kelly initially take charge of this as Acting Director of the Feminist Philosophy Archive Project, with Samantha and Christina her equal partners in the project.

I will be happy to serve as a "senior" advisor to the project, again, as it launches out of FEAST.

Please write to the FEAST list encouraging us or disapproving. In any case, please include your reasons.

If this looks like it will go forward, we'll quickly get going a discussion list for the project.

xxoo,
J
