I never really knew Claudia. But I was just at a political philosophy
conference at Syracuse U where I met one of my first philosophy professors,
Hans Oberdiek, who recently retired from Swarthmore College. Hans warmly
remembered Claudia as one of his first students, whom he had taught when he
was a graduate student at University of Wisconsin. He told me how
brilliant she was. When he had to grade his first set of final exams, he
drew up a sheet listing all the points students should cover in their
essays. About halfway through grading, he read Claudia's exam. It was so
superior to his own sheet that he decided to use her exam as the standard
against which he graded all the others!
