Joan,
I was going to suggest the same book Carol does below. Though the focus is human rights, much of the content and analysis applies to rights generally.

Hi Joan,

On human rights, James Nickel's Making Sense of Human Rights, second edition is helpful. It also discusses the structure of a right (in the Feinberg tradition) and the relation of human rights to civil and political rights, so maybe that would suit your purpose.

All best,
Caro

p.s. Alas, no contact info for Sandra Bartky. But I just referenced her terrific wok on solidarity in a recent paper!

Dear Ones --

Two questions:

Does anyone have a phone number for Sandra Bartky?

What is a good, concise book on rights, appropriate for students with no background in philosophy?

Please reply to me off list at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> .

Thank you!

Joan
