It is important to note that there are 2 institutions named Wheaton
College. The one listed on the petition is no doubt the one in Illinois (a
super-fundamentalist school). The entirely different, unrelated one, which
does NOT discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation (and which has
been the academic home of many strong feminist and GLBTQ faculty), is
located in Massachusetts.

I notified the organizer of the petition about this and he says he is
going to try to get the clarification made -- not least because several
faculty from Wheaton College (MA) have signed the petition, and he has
come to realize that at Wheaton College (MA) there has been an "amazing
amount of effort on the part of the campus to promote gay rights."

Subject: APA petition

This petition requests that the American Philosophical Society enforce its
own non-discrimination policy by ceasing to advertise jobs on behalf of
colleges and universities that discriminate on the basis of sexual
orientation, or at least indicating that the colleges and universities in
question fail to comply with the non-discrimination policy.
